National Made in Italy Day at the Università Mediterranea

On Tuesday, April 15, the National Made in Italy Day, promoted by the Ministry of Made in Italy at the “Francesco Saverio Nesci” Seminar Room of the Department of Agriculture at the Università Mediterranea, was held at the same time as about 600 other events celebrated throughout the country to exalt Italian creativity and excellence.
The meeting, which aimed to offer a moment of confrontation between the academic world and some important SMEs operating in the Calabrian territory, was opened by Rector Giuseppe Zimbalatti. After a brief video-greeting by Minister Adolfo Urso, institutional greetings were given by Engineer Giuseppe Antonio Sofia, manager of the House of Made in Italy in Reggio Calabria, Dr. Antonino Tramontana, President of the Chamber of Commerce of Reggio Calabria, Dr. Angelo Marra, President of the Miscellaneous Industries Section of Confindustria Reggio Calabria.
Prof. Massimo Lauria, Deputy Vice Rector for Research and Technology Transfer, moderated the panel discussion, which was attended by Prof. Mariateresa Russo, Deputy Vice Rector for Major University Projects and Research Infrastructures, Prof. Consuelo Nava, Director of the Department of Architecture and Design, Prof. Marco Poiana, Director of the Department of Agriculture. Their speeches stimulated the sharp reflections given by the representatives of the four invited companies, active in the construction, design and agrifood sectors: Federica Basile for “Fattoria della Piana,” Umberto Barreca for “RE.DE.L. Energia”; Filippo Callipo for “Giacinto Callipo Conserve Alimentari”; Giuseppe Condemi for “UNION ISS.”
Laura Maria Ferri, professor of Business Economics at the Catholic University of the Sacred Heart in Milan, closed the proceedings.
The event was graced by a brief but engaging ceremony during which Dr. Filippo Callipo donated to the University Library System a copy of the valuable volume “Doing Business, Cultivating Values” edited by the National Federation of Knights of Labor.
Dr. Filippo Callipo in handing over the volume emphasized, “it is important, perhaps even more so today, to collect, preserve and pass on the values that the Knights of Labor share in the conduct of business, in caring for the welfare of co-workers and employees, in managing the relationship between family and company and in managing relations with family shareholders.”
The Rector, Prof. Giuseppe Zimbalatti, on Made in Italy Day, said, “Once again Mediterranea has intended to network with the territory. This time emphasizing the role of businesses and stakeholders as drivers of innovation for our Territory. We heard today a great and choral lesson on doing business in Calabria. My special thanks go to Dr. Filippo Callipo for his valuable presence and for his equally valuable tribute to us.”
Prof. Massimo Lauria said, “Once again this year, the Research Area of the Mediterranea intended to accept the invitation of the Ministry of Made in Italy and organize this day of undoubted interest, particularly for our young people. The neologism Innovability that we chose as the title of the event prompted us to address with our qualified guests the current terms of innovation and sustainability, reflecting on the metrics related to their possible conjugation in the perspective of the development and growth of our territory. Perspective for which the Università Mediterranea intends to continue to play a leading role by focusing even more on technology transfer actions.”
