Third Mission
In a society where there is a strong sense of responsibility for the activities and impacts that universities have on the territory in which they operate, and on the opportunities to open their own borders of knowledge, the importance of dialogue between science and society is more relevant than ever.
In the R&D sector, there is a commitment to economically valorise the skills and results of research - as well as to strengthen and maintain an active line of direct communication between research, technological innovation and citizens - strengthening the relationships between training systems and the employment and production market on the one hand, and between the world of scientific research and the entrepreneurial fabric on the other.
The Third Mission activities have always constituted a solid specific field of action of Mediterranea, which already in the Statute (art. 1 paragraph 1) defines its socio-cultural project:
“The Università degli Studi Mediterranea di Reggio Calabria […] promotes the development and progress of culture and science through research and training, the quality of services to students and the territory, the transmission of ethical and civil values, innovation and technological transfer, in collaboration with economic and social subjects, cooperation with research bodies and national and international institutions. The University, since its establishment, has been committed to assuming a central role in the ethical, civil, cultural, economic growth and in the sustainable development of Calabria and the country through the improvement of its skills, the integration of knowledge, collaboration with the national and international scientific community.”
