ESN survey

The ESNsurvey is one of ESN's main  research projects  and has been collecting data on different aspects of student mobility  and the internationalisation of higher education since 2005. The survey is conducted in collaboration with 46 ESN member countries and is the largest student-led research initiative in Europe , with a focus on the Erasmus+ programme and international exchanges.

The questionnaire was developed with the support of a group of experts from organisations such as EAIE , ACA , IAU , ECIU  (European Alliance), as well as researchers from the Jagiellonian University , Tilburg University  and the ENIS network  (European Network on International Student Mobility).

Why is it important?

The aim of the ESNsurvey is to improve access to and quality of mobility experiences,  monitoring in particular the Erasmus+ programme. The results collected will be published in a report, which will serve as a basis for recommendations addressed to all actors involved in student mobility. The first results are expected in October 2025, while the final report will be published in 2026.

Who is the questionnaire aimed at?

  • Students who have undertaken a mobility experience  from August 2023 onwards (those who left earlier will fill in a section dedicated to graduates).

  • International students enrolled in a full cycle of studies abroad , starting from August 2021.

  •  Non-mobile students , currently enrolled in a higher education course.

The questionnaire is now also open to graduates  who have participated in a mobility programme and are currently in employment . Their answers will help to better understand the impact of international experience on professional skills  and career opportunities , in line with the European Commission's objective of strengthening skills at European level.
