In a overflowing Quistelli Aula Magna, in the presence of school principals and students from some high schools, Department Directors and Degree Course Coordinators, the Degree Courses planned for the Academic Year 2025-2026 at the Università Mediterranea di Reggio Calabria were presented .

28 degree courses, 14 three-year courses, 3 single-cycle master's courses and 11 two-year master's courses divided into over 50 curricula

The educational offer is constantly evolving and has been largely updated considering the evolution of the professional figures to be trained and the needs of the reference territory. For the new academic year, 28 degree courses will be active , of which 14 are first level courses lasting three years, 3 single-cycle master's courses and 11 two-year master's courses divided into over 50 curricula and orientations.

In the new academic year, the new first level degree in Electronic and Biomedical Engineering is being activated , which will enrich the educational offer with the presence of the corresponding two-year master's degree. Furthermore, in the Engineering area, the degree in Information Engineering has been updated by proposing the new degree in Computer and Telecommunications Engineering.

The Agriculture area has been completely renovated with the updating of the teaching regulations of all study courses, expanding the offer in food and gastronomic sciences and technologies, as well as in Mediterranean agricultural production.

The areas of Architecture and Design have also been renewed in terms of teaching arrangements, offering new study opportunities.

The areas of Economics, Law, Biological Sciences, Nursing Sciences, Sports Sciences and Human Sciences have been updated in terms of educational offerings and individual courses.

The educational offering is completed with 5 PhD courses , 3 specialization schools and advanced training courses , 8 initial training courses for teaching in schools , and numerous first and second level masters.

Many services are offered to students, including IT, digital, WI-FI, sports, mobility, for the vulnerable, medical and health, and others. A counseling desk has recently been activated to support the student community in reducing the dropout rate and identifying the reasons that determine the onset of the difficulties themselves.

The strengths of our University: culture, identity and future

"The educational offer responds today more than ever to the strengths of our University: culture, identity and future  - began the rector  Giuseppe Zimbalatti  -.  The challenge is to promote programs that strengthen the profiles of competence specific to an increasingly complex and dynamic society and, at the same time, the Mediterranean - as an inclusive and open community - feels a strong responsibility to contribute to raising critical awareness, to train and guide its students in facing and managing changes and orienting them towards the future.  Through our activities of Teaching, Research and Third Mission we want to increasingly strengthen the  cultural, scientific and educational presence  represented by our university, in synergy with all the actors in the territory, to contribute to the improvement of the aforementioned indicators.  Our watchwords are Retaining and Attracting , on this last strip of the European continent, young people, including those from the southern shore of the Mediterranean for whom we represent the North of hope.  The educational offer is constantly evolving and strengthening: we have activated new courses of study , to strengthen the humanities and engineering areas, and we are preparing to inaugurate the fifth:  Electronic and Biomedical Engineering  in 3 years”.

The data illustrated by the rector are significant as evidence of the growth of the University in recent years and of the desire  - through the activities of Teaching, Research and Third Mission - to strengthen the  cultural, scientific and educational presence  represented by the University of Reggio in synergy with all the actors of the territory, to contribute to the improvement of the aforementioned indicators.  There were 1,496 new enrollments, with an  increase of 19-20%  compared to last year and our University is still growing in  attractiveness  by increasing the number of enrolled students (2024 graduates) coming from  other provinces : the percentage is around  35%  ( compared to around 20% last year ).  The University  - the rector announced - now has around 5,300 enrolled students , with a  growth of close to 10%  compared to the previous year. In the  CENSIS 2024/2025 ranking  which photographs the  ranking of small Italian universities,  the Mediterranean University is in 5th place in the general ranking,  excelling  with the first national place in two fundamental categories: for  Scholarships  (University expenditure for interventions in favor of students (2022/23 school year) and for structures . Positive notes also come from the ANVUR Indicators on the quality of teaching. Significant growth in the years, in particular with regard to the progression of students' careers: the percentage of graduates within the normal duration of the course (20% increase compared to 2022); percentage of students who continue to the second year in the same degree class having acquired at least 40 CFU in the first year (16% increase compared to 2022) ”.

Again, from an Almalaurea 2024 survey, other interesting data emerge. “The  proportion of  graduates who are overall satisfied with the degree course stands at 91%; the employment rate  of second-level graduates,  five years  after obtaining the degree, is equal to 81.5 % Furthermore,  an important fact is that 80.5% of employed people   consider the degree obtained  very effective  or  effective  for the work carried out ( the national figure is 75.7%) .

“These are data that renew our motivation and commitment but they are not meant to be celebratory, but rather to respond to a duty of communication with the objective –  concluded the rector Giuseppe Zimbalatti – of designing a future of concrete possibilities for our young people so that they consciously choose to remain in their University and in their country, contributing to increasing the attractiveness of their University and their city ".

Erasmus of the Mediterranean is also growing. “ We have further increased contracts with other European and non-European universities  – highlighted the deputy vice-rector prof.  Francesca Fatta  -. Thanks also to the Italian Erasmus we have started a new collaboration with the University of Sassari, the Alghero branch, which includes Architecture and Design; and again, positive notes come from the “TNE” (Transnational Educational Initiatives), with four large and challenging projects that include training abroad for students who belong to the Mediterranean Area. Finally, we plan to define a regulation for young professors willing to spend at least two months

The vice-rector for teaching,  Antonino Vitetta , declared that " the Universitò Mediterranea has continued to update its educational offering for several years, increasing the quality of the contents and broadening the study paths and topics covered.

The students welcomed the new features and updates with pleasure. The two new three-year degrees, established and activated in the current academic year, in Mechanical Engineering and Motor Sciences and Sports Law, had a high number of enrollees, with a consequent increase of about 20% of first-year enrollees.

Furthermore, the university has seen an increase in indicators relating to the percentage of students who enroll in the second year, having completed at least 40 university training credits, and of students who graduate within the expected duration of the course of study. The results achieved may see further improvements in the new academic year with the activation of the new degree course in electronic and biomedical engineering .

The Vice-Rector for Orientation,  Rossella Marzullo , stated that “ The Università Mediterranea of Reggio Calabria has now structured an orientation system based on targeted paths and interventions differentiated in the objectives and in the working methodology that have a character of intimate coherence both with the personal needs expressed by the students, and with those of a socio-economic nature. The main objective that the University has achieved is that of the creation of an integrated orientation system, in which quality experiences and cases of excellence are valued, starting from the good practices of territorial networking that exist today, also with a view to promoting the development of effective and sustainable synergies in the future. This is in the belief that quality orientation must be based on horizontal experiences that involve schools, professional training centers, universities and employment agencies, in a network perspective that can be the synthesis of the concept of sustainable development according to the trajectory traced by the 2030 agenda

The General Manager Eng. Pietro Foti states “ The goal is to make the Università Mediterranea increasingly attractive, inclusive and supportive. A new educational offer capable of guaranteeing greater freedom of choice to new members, which is added to actions to strengthen the administrative structures in order to improve the quality of services, as well as investments and interventions on residences, sports and orientation activities .”

People, stories and ambitions, the most precious qualities of our University

We are not just numbers: we are people, stories and ambitions. And this is perhaps one of the most precious qualities of our University .” This is the clear message from  Isabella Scardino,  President of the Student Council, who added: “ The Università Mediterranea is committed to ensuring a quality educational offering, but not only that; it offers services designed for the physical, mental and logistical well-being of its students.  At the Mediterranea, you don't just study: you grow, you collaborate, you build together.
Let's think, for example, of the  university gym , with free courses that last year involved over 600 students, or the  free public transport service  with two dedicated urban lines that connect the city center to the University offices, the two  university residences , spaces that create a study and sharing environment that is essential for many out-of-town students, because it means feeling part of a community, building bonds and facing the university path together, the  scholarships , which guarantee capable and deserving students, even in difficult economic situations, the concrete possibility of pursuing their dreams. Because access to study is a right, not a privilege. At the center of all this,  there  are us students . Choosing to train at the Mediterranea also means believe - concluded Isabella Scardino - in the potential of our territory and contribute to its growth, here, where knowledge meets the future and where young people can really make a difference ".

A hymn to stay in our land, exalting the beauty of our city

The illustration of the educational offer ended with the presentation of the video that introduced the song " Mediterranea è l'Università " curated by the storyteller from Reggio Augusto Favaloro . It was a particularly emotional moment, which involved many students from the University of Reggio. The song, which contains in its text some slogans used by the Mediterranean University, has the aim of encouraging all young people to stay in our land, exalting the beauty of our city.

Studying in Reggio Calabria, fighting for a rebirth that is already underway.

The meaning of the song is to resist!

Study and work in your own territory, to finally give dignity to a context that has been put in the background, for too long and for various reasons.

Music, sometimes, can stir consciences and this song has just that as its sole objective: to awaken the youth of the Strait to build a better future.
