The PRIN (Research Projects of Relevant National Interest) Program represents a valuable funding opportunity for public research projects, aimed at promoting the national research system, strengthening interactions between universities and research institutions, and contributing to the objectives outlined in the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR). Furthermore, it promotes Italian participation in the initiatives of Horizon Europe , the European Union's Framework Program for Research and Innovation.

The regulation for the financing of PRIN projects provides for a mechanism for the allocation of funds based on co-financing, group research work and peer review.

The guiding principles of the PRIN program include:

  • The high quality of the scientific profile of the Principal Investigator (PI) and of the heads of the units involved, as well as the originality of the research.
  • The methodological appropriateness, impact and feasibility of the research project.
  • The possibility of funding projects related to any field of research.
  • Adequate financial support guaranteed by the Ministry of University and Research (MUR).

Currently, the PRIN calls published by MUR include PRIN 2022 and PRIN 2022 PNRR .

This section contains detailed information on how to participate and make the most of these important research funding opportunities.
