National funding
MIUR Calls
With the evolution of the national legislation for the financing of "Research of Relevant National Interest", the MIUR has started a new mechanism for the allocation of funds, based on specific qualifying points: co-financing, group research work and the principle of evaluation of research projects.
These are the Research Programs of Relevant National Interest (PRIN) that provide for free and autonomous research proposals, without the obligation to refer to themes predefined at a central level.
The PRINs favor proposals that integrate various skills and contributions from different universities.
For applied research, they are attentive to proposals that highlight a particular consideration towards the potential users of the results.

PON 2007-2013
The National Operational Programme "Research and Competitiveness" 2007-2013, co-financed by community resources ERDF (European Regional Development Fund) and national resources, promotes initiatives and projects in the fields of scientific research, competitiveness and industrial innovation in the Convergence Regions (Calabria, Campania, Puglia, Sicily), represents a tool thanks to which the research system and the business world can identify and develop new solutions to increase their competitiveness, improving the socio-economic conditions of the Convergence Regions.
The aim of the PON Research and Competitiveness is to promote the ability to produce and use excellent research and innovation in the four Regions involved, in order to ensure long-lasting and sustainable development in the relevant territories.
There are two specific objectives:
- Axis I - support for structural changes and strengthening of the scientific-technological potential for the transition to the knowledge economy
- Axis II - Strengthening the innovative context for the development of competitiveness
The actions of Axis 1 and Axis 2 are strongly correlated and interdependent : on the one hand, structural changes can be pursued and achieved only in contexts in which the propensity of enterprises to innovate finds the support of adequate external economies and has put down deep roots; on the other hand, contextual interventions find valorization and consolidation only in the face of an advanced and receptive entrepreneurial fabric.
The method adopted for the shared management of the Program between MIUR and MiSE is not limited to a simple division of competences at Axis level: the actions within each Axis have been structured with the aim of reaping the fruits of an effective and synergic collaboration between the two Administrations. The Program includes a third Axis of intervention, that of Technical Assistance and accompanying measures .
An important role, transversal to the Axes, is recognized to the integrated actions for sustainable development and for the Information Society assumed as a lever both to increase the propensity of companies to innovate, and as a surrounding factor that contributes to qualifying the context in which companies operate.
