Cybersecurity and the professional world: seminars with BIP on Risk Management, Penetration Testing, and Incident Response
On May 6, 2026, from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM, and on May 7, 2026, from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM, two seminars dedicated to cybersecurity topics were held at the Università degli Studi Mediterranea di Reggio Calabria. These seminars were organized as part of the "Technologies for Information Security" course of the Master's Degree in "Computer Science and Telecommunications Systems Engineering."
The meetings were coordinated by Professor Francesco Buccafurri, the professor, and were attended by two representatives of BIP: Giovanni Ambrogio, Security Associate Manager, and Sebastiano Michele Militti, Security Principal.
The seminars explored some of the key topics related to cybersecurity, with a particular focus on risk management, penetration testing, and incident response. The speakers shared their professional experience gained in key corporate and project settings with the students, offering a concrete perspective on current cybersecurity challenges and the methodologies adopted for preventing, analyzing, and managing cyber incidents.
The two sessions featured both a theoretical and practical approach. Alongside a conceptual overview of the main aspects of cyber risk management and system security assessments, exercises and operational analyses were offered. Specifically, a detailed examination of a notorious ransomware responsible for serious cyber incidents was conducted, allowing students to better understand the dynamics of attacks, the techniques used by malicious actors, and possible response and mitigation strategies.
The initiative represented an important opportunity for discussion between the academic and professional worlds, allowing students to integrate the knowledge acquired during their studies with experiences, case studies, and skills from the industrial sector. The meetings also helped strengthen the connection between university education and the concrete needs of the cybersecurity job market.
