EMCEI 2025 – 7th Euro-Mediterranean Conference for Environmental Integration

19 June 2025
A scientific event of international importance

From 23 to 25 June 2025, the DICEAM Department of the University Mediterranea will host the seventh edition of the Euro-Mediterranean Conference on Environmental Integration (EMCEI), a major scientific conference that brings together researchers, academics and professionals from all over the world to address the main environmental challenges facing the Mediterranean region.

Previous editions, held in different countries in the region, have seen extraordinary participation with thousands of abstracts submitted and hundreds of scientists, making EMCEI a milestone in environmental innovation.

Institutional partnerships and endorsements

The event is organised in collaboration with the following institutions:

- Department of Agriculture – Università Mediterranea di Reggio Calabria;

- Metropolitan City of Reggio Calabria;

- ISPRA – Italian National Institute for Environmental Protection and Research;

- Professional Association of Engineers of Reggio Calabria;

- Civil Defence of the Calabria Region.

The organising committee includes prominent academic and institutional figures such as the Rector Prof. Giuseppe Zimbalatti, the DICEAM Director Prof. Giuseppe Barbaro (local chairman), the City official Domenica Catalfamo, the ISPRA Director General Dr. Maria Siclari and numerous DICEAM researchers.

Aims of the Conference

- To promote scientific research and technological innovation

- Promote international cooperation between the scientific communities of the Mediterranean region

- Support ecological change through multidisciplinary dialogue

Central themes

The conference sessions will address key issues for environmental sustainability in the Mediterranean region, including

- Climate change and adaptation

- Sustainable planning of coastal and urban areas

- Agriculture and the environment

- Socio-economic impacts of climate change

- Integrated risk management (floods, landslides, earthquakes, tsunamis)

- Nature-based solutions

Special DICEAM Session

The DICEAM Director has proposed a special session focusing on integrated management of the coastal and river basin continuum, emphasising the importance of jointly managing complex and interconnected natural phenomena (e.g. floods + storm surges, earthquakes + landslides or tsunamis). Advanced approaches will be discussed to support local authorities' decision-making with robust, multidisciplinary scientific tools.

A Unique opportunity for the Territory

The organisation of EMCEI 2025 represents a great opportunity for growth and international visibility for the DICEAM department and the entire University Mediterranea. It also offers a strategic moment of dialogue to launch new scientific collaborations with global partners.
