The 2026-2027 Program Offering has been presented: the Università Mediterranea the driving force of the region, a pact for the future of young people.
A healthy, modern, and increasingly attractive university. This is the snapshot of the Università Mediterranea di Reggio Calabria that emerged this morning during the official presentation of the new program for the 2026-2027 academic year, held in the Quistelli Aula Magna.
With a curriculum that evolves with the world of work—28 degree programs (14 undergraduate, 3 single-cycle, and 11 graduate)—spread across over 50 pathways, Mediterranea is committed to innovation. This year's major innovation is the launch of the degree program in Biotechnology for Sustainability , a concrete response to current challenges and a new career opportunity, allowing our young people to specialize in key sectors of the future without having to leave their homeland.
The offering is rounded out with excellent postgraduate training: 5 research doctorates, 1 specialization school for the Legal Professions, 4 levels of Specialization for Support, 11 first- and second-level master's degrees, 11 teaching qualification programs. The goal is one: to create a well-prepared and competitive local leadership class.
The University of Reggio Calabria is investing heavily in the well-being of its community. In addition to digital services and mobility, the strengthening of the Counseling Service is a key aspect , a crucial resource for supporting students in times of difficulty and preventing university dropouts. Work is also progressing rapidly on the completion of the Mediterranean Campus, destined to become the beating heart of student life in Reggio Calabria.
Record-breaking enrollment figures over two years confirm the growing trust of students and families in the Università Mediterranea di Reggio Calabria. Enrollment has increased by 15% in the last year, marking an incredible 38% increase over the two-year period. This growth is accompanied by sound management: the 2025 financial statements closed with a significant profit of over €6.5 million. This, along with financial stability and the growing student population, allows us to invest in research, technology, and, above all, in the future of our young people.
Among the most significant achievements is the strengthening of the University of Reggio's cultural, scientific, and educational presence, in synergy with local institutions and stakeholders. Also noteworthy are the recognitions Università Mediterranea has received in the CENSIS rankings, which in the last three editions have placed it first among small universities in Italy for student support and scholarships, along with the steady growth recorded in the regularity of university programs and student career progression.
"The significant growth in enrollment represents a sign of confidence and hope from students and their families."
The Rector, Professor Giuseppe Zimbalatti , said: “ The presentation of a new program is a moment of great importance and institutional responsibility; one in which we hand over to our young people the "keys" to best face increasingly complex challenges.
Today, more than ever, this occasion fills us with satisfaction because it coincides with a particularly favorable and rewarding phase for the entire academic community. The significant growth in enrollments represents a sign of confidence and hope from students and their families, who recognize our University's ability to look ahead and make innovation, training, and technology transfer the seeds of a future filled with opportunities and prospects. Building on the positive experiences of recent years, we have sought to foster a virtuous combination of proven and innovative approaches, enhancing, in a multidisciplinary spirit, the various macro-areas, both scientific and humanistic.
The challenge is to consider the latest professional trends and the unique characteristics of our region to make it increasingly attractive to our young people. This in-depth look at the future and its changes has led to the establishment of the new degree program in Biotechnology for Sustainability, with the goal of opening up a wide range of cultural and career opportunities for Biotechnology graduates, enabling them to better navigate the ever-changing technological and biotechnological landscape.
But we must not forget that the Università Mediterranea is proudly an inclusive academic community that leaves no one behind and rallys around its young people, valorizing the centrality of their respective paths.
"Our guidance approach is based on constant dialogue with schools, vocational training centers, other universities, and employment agencies."
The Vice Rector for Orientation, Professor Rossella Marzullo, said: "Università Mediterranea di Reggio Calabria has now developed a guidance system based on targeted programs and interventions differentiated in objectives and methodology, consistent with the educational needs of students and the socioeconomic needs expressed by families and the local context. One result that makes us proud is having implemented integrated guidance programs, which highlight high-quality experiences and cases of excellence, the successes achieved by our graduates who become testimonials for current students, and best practices in local networking for sustainable development.
Our guidance approach is based on ongoing dialogue with schools, vocational training centers, other universities, and employment agencies, building a network that reflects the goals of the 2030 Agenda.
I would also like to express my great satisfaction with the results achieved in ongoing orientation. Thanks to the PRO-BEN Project—for which I am the scientific coordinator for the University of Reggio Calabria—the Counseling Desk is now open. Students can access the service at any time during the academic year to request individual consultations online or in person, to participate in discussion groups, and thus find a place where they feel welcomed, even with the small and large challenges they encounter along the way .
"The University plays an increasingly central role as a cultural, scientific, and educational reference point for the region."
The Vice Rector for Teaching, Professor Antonino Vitetta , emphasized that " The results achieved, in terms of a significant increase in enrollment combined with a constant focus on the quality of teaching, are a clear indicator of the University's increasingly central role as a cultural, scientific, and educational hub for the region. The University's work is carried out by placing students at the center of its educational programs and all academic initiatives, with the aim of ensuring a quality university experience, cultural growth, and concrete opportunities for personal and professional development. "
Vice-Rector for the Right to Education and Student Services, Prof. Antonio Taccone: "It is highlighted that the Right to Education is a fundamental pillar for the Università Mediterranea, as it is not only an institutional duty, but a central element of the academic mission, aimed at promoting equity and ensuring access to education for all. The services provided are primarily related to scholarships, but also include supplementary contributions (degree awards), housing services, contributions for international mobility, accommodation contributions, and transportation contributions. In recent years, moreover, the Università Mediterranea has ensured full coverage of scholarships for all eligible students through the review of rankings, making use of European, state, and regional funds. In the last academic year, the number of beneficiaries exceeded 35% of enrolled students, which confirmed the Università Mediterranea in first place in the Censis ranking for small universities in terms of scholarships. Sports, cultural, and recreational activities - equipped gym, calisthenics area, tournaments, polyphonic choir, internal health services - complete an offering geared towards the well-being of the student body. In conclusion, for the Università Mediterranea, ensuring the necessary tools for the Right to Education is a key factor in ensuring the well-being of the student body. The study program represents a fundamental and strategic element and, in this context, the Merit Income, recently introduced by the Calabria Region, can be considered a further element for attracting talent and skills.”
Dr. Andrea Fuda, President of the UniRC Student Council, said: "The presentation of the new Course Offering for the 2026/2027 academic year confirmed our University's commitment to addressing the challenges of the future, focusing on increasingly multidisciplinary, innovative teaching methods that are responsive to the needs of the working world . As the Student Council, we welcome the strengthening of tutoring services and the introduction of new study programs. Our primary objective now will be to actively contribute to ensuring that this renewal translates into a real improvement in the quality of student life at the Mediterranean University, promoting the full right to education, inclusiveness, and the ongoing improvement of infrastructure and laboratories. Constructive and collaborative dialogue between the governance and the student body will, as always, be the driving force behind this process. "
Pietro Foti, General Director, Università Mediterranea,
" The encouraging management and financial results achieved, starting with the significant profit recorded, demonstrate the administrative solidity of our University. This accounting efficiency is not an end in itself, but rather an indispensable tool that allows us to concretely support the growth of teaching, enhance student services, and complete the strategic infrastructure of the Campus. We will continue to work to ensure a modern, transparent organizational structure capable of leveraging every single resource for the benefit of the local community and future generations."
The Università Mediterranea di Reggio Calabria thus looks ahead to the new academic year with strong financial stability and growing confidence, confirming it as an irreplaceable point of reference for the future of young people and the development of Calabria.
