A film like an intimate diary. Written and imagined on the threshold of separation: from her mother, from Lou Reed—her husband and lifelong companion—from her dog Lolabelle. A film that faces death, yet is filled with tenderness and driven by the desire to understand and love life, for how it has come to us and how it projects us toward the dimension of mystery. Laurie Anderson quotes Kierkegaard: "Life can only be understood by looking back, but it must be lived by looking forward." The stories evoked and narrated in the film intertwine with those of Lolabelle. The animal that accompanies us forces us to look at the world through "different" eyes and broadens our perception of reality. She shifts our very sensorial attention: music, sound, and silence take center stage. A film about language, where the author's narrative voice unravels her stories immersed in the sonic universe that surrounds them. A reflection on love and time. Every true love changes the perception of time and neither love nor time allow themselves to be possessed. Lou Reed sings it at the end of the film: “Turning time around / Yes, that is what love is / My time is your time when you're in love / And time is what you never have enough of / You can't see or hold it, it's exactly like love” (Lou Reed, «Turning time around», from the album Ecstasy, 2000).
The film is dedicated to Lou.
