Framework Agreement signed with Aspromonte National Park
A Framework Agreement has been signed between the Aspromonte National Park Authority and the Università Mediterranea di Reggio Calabria to establish structured collaboration in research, teaching, and training.
The agreement was signed by the Park Authority's Special Commissioner, Dr. Renato Carullo, and the Rector of the Università Mediterranea, Professor Giuseppe Zimbalatti, and stems from a shared vision that considers Aspromonte a natural laboratory of extraordinary scientific, environmental, cultural, and agroforestry value.
Underlining the significance of the agreement, the Rector of the Università Mediterranea Professor Giuseppe Zimbalatti , declared:
" This agreement strengthens the bond between the University and the local area, promoting Aspromonte as a space for research, training, and innovation at the service of Calabria's sustainable development ."
The Extraordinary Commissioner of the Aspromonte Park, Architect Carullo, in line with the Rector's assertions, " this agreement represents the administrative framework that certifies how interinstitutional collaboration can be the primary driver for the sustainable growth of the territory ."
Areas of collaboration
The Convention provides for:
• fundamental and applied research activities on biodiversity, ecosystems and the sustainable use of natural resources;
• studies and monitoring on the impacts of climate change and the introduction of invasive species, with mitigation strategies;
• collaboration in the presentation of joint project proposals for public and private tenders.
Training and knowledge transfer
The agreement constitutes a reference platform for the activation of:
• scholarships and PhDs;
• degree theses, internships and practical-application exercises at the Park's facilities;
• seminars, conferences, technical tables and guidelines for the development of the agro-forestry, environmental, food and cultural sectors;
• educational and study visits within the protected area.
A shared scientific heritage
The results of these studies and research activities will constitute the shared heritage of the Università Mediterranea and the Park Authority and will be used within the scope of their respective institutional competencies and activities, to support policies for the protection and enhancement of the territory.
Duration and renewal
The Agreement has a duration of five years, automatically renewable, unless terminated by one of the parties.
This agreement strengthens the link between the University, the local community, and the environment, recognizing scientific knowledge as an essential tool for building sustainable development, environmental protection, and a future for the Aspromonte and Calabria as a whole.
