Institutional synergy for local development: first official meeting between Rector Zimbalatti and Mayor Cannizzaro
The first official institutional meeting between the Rector, Professor Giuseppe Zimbalatti, and the Mayor of Reggio Calabria, the Honorable Francesco Cannizzaro, took place yesterday morning at the Rector's Office of the Università Mediterranea di Reggio Calabria.
At the heart of the fruitful and cordial discussion on Reggio Calabria as a university city is the firm mutual desire to initiate a process of close and structured collaboration between the academic community and the municipal administration. The shared strategic objective is to promote the University of Reggio Calabria as a driving force for the economic, cultural, and social development of the city and the entire metropolitan area.
The meeting also provided an important opportunity for dialogue with the students, who presented ideas, proposals, and reflections on the future of the University and the region.
"Our University represents a fundamental resource for the region," stated Rector Giuseppe Zimbalatti . "Mayor Cannizzaro's first official visit marks the beginning of a period of ongoing dialogue, building on our excellent existing relationships. We are ready to make our wealth of scientific expertise, human capital, and research infrastructure available to the administration and the public, to actively contribute to providing concrete solutions to Reggio Calabria's challenges."
The morning concluded with a shared commitment to establish, as soon as possible, a permanent technical committee between University delegates and the future relevant councilors, aimed at monitoring and implementing individual projects.
"The Università Mediterranea will be a strategic and permanent partner of the City Administration. For this reason, the new Council will include a specific mandate for relations with the University, with the aim of developing a stable and concrete collaboration on the city's development projects. Furthermore, discussions with students have confirmed the value of the wealth of ideas and proposals coming from even the youngest students, a fundamental resource for improving the present and building the future of Reggio Calabria, fostering its growth," stated Mayor Francesco Cannizzaro.
