From Reggio Calabria to Tbilisi: Massimiliano Ferrara was awarded an honorary doctorate and two historic memoranda of understanding were signed.
The awarding of the HC Doctorate in Computer Science to Professor Ferrara and the signing of two historic memoranda of understanding by Rector Zimbalatti pave the way for future research projects and academic exchanges between Italy and Georgia.
Prestigious international recognition for Italian scientific research: the Georgian National University SEU in Tbilisi has awarded the Doctor of Philosophy Honoris Causa in Computer Science to Massimiliano Ferrara , full professor of Mathematical Economics, Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning at the Università Mediterranea di Reggio Calabria and Scientific Director of the Decisions LAB.
The solemn ceremony took place in the presence of the Rector of SEU, Gia Kavtelishvili, the Rector of the Università Mediterranea , Giuseppe Zimbalatti, and a large representation of the Georgian academic community.
During the event, Professor Ferrara delivered a lecture titled "Mathematics as the Universal Language of Trustworthy Intelligence ." In his speech, he illustrated how game theory, topology, and geometry are the fundamental tools for building AI systems that are not only advanced, but also explainable, robust, and verifiable.
“ The future of artificial intelligence will not be determined solely by the sophistication of our algorithms ,” declared Professor Massimiliano Ferrara in the key passage of his lecture, “but by our ability to translate mathematical complexity into authentic human understanding .”
The Rector of the Università Mediterranea, Giuseppe Zimbalatti , in his welcoming address expressed deep gratitude to SEU University, highlighting the strategic value of the honor: “ This important international recognition for Professor Ferrara testifies to and consolidates the path of scientific growth and the strong global projection that the University of Reggio is carrying forward with determination .”

The academic day also marked a fundamental step forward in the internationalization of the Università Mediterranea di Reggio Calabria. The awarding of the doctorate was preceded by the signing of two strategic agreements for scientific and educational cooperation signed by Rector Zimbalatti with the Georgian National University SEU and the International Black Sea University, respectively. These agreements will pave the way for future research projects and academic exchanges between Italy and Georgia.
