The BIP is the continuation of a first Workshop organized by UNIRC and held in Lipari (ME) at the Parco Archeologico delle Isole Eolie, Museo Luigi Bernabò Brea from 20 to 24 May 2024.

Objectives and Program:

The partner institutions collaborated in the preparation of an educational program focused on the digitization of Greek theatrical masks, in the realization of a set-up for traveling exhibitions and in the reproduction of some masks for the staging of a theatrical performance, in the visual communication project of the event. These projects are based on archaeological, performative, historical and anthropological investigations of classical material culture, explored through digital humanities for a more inclusive cultural engagement.

The participants of the second edition will work to further develop and enrich the projects started during the first workshop. In this BIP, new methods of digital exploration of masks are studied and tested, giving life to creative artefacts.

Virtual mobility: mandatory online training activity (20 h)

In-person mobility: from 7 to 11 April 2025 (5 days)

Language: English

CFU/ECTS credits recognized for participation in the Program: 3

Goals:

With objectives focused on fostering inter-institutional collaboration, innovating educational offerings, providing students with future-oriented skills, promoting cultural and academic exchange and ensuring academic recognition, the BIP proposes a flexible and interdisciplinary curriculum. This initiative is designed to broaden participants' global perspectives, improve employability and support high standards of academic excellence. 5 students from each of the partner universities will be involved in order to combine specialist expertise from different professors and schools of Architecture and Design and to discuss solutions for urban regeneration through the eyes of students.

Plan:

The program focuses on teaching the design of spaces and shelters for the most disadvantaged people in society who are forced to live on the streets not because there are no solutions, but because the solutions are not suitable for their lifestyle. They often prefer to live on the streets rather than respect the rules provided by the associations that offer them a room or a temporary space. The most disadvantaged in society are a visible problem that society itself is trying to make invisible. Despite the initiative of various associations, many of these problems are not solved. Homeless people, families in need and young people entrusted to shelter are some of the “invisible” causes of our society. Social innovation is a process that aims to develop and effectively implement solutions to these social problems and this is where design can come into play with solutions that ennoble the lives of these people.

The Polytechnic Institute of Viana do Castelo offers an Erasmus+ BIP program on the topic of the importance of design in the issue of Social Innovation. Throughout the teaching-learning process, the program will use innovative pedagogical practices in line with the following objectives:

1. understand the importance of design for society and specifically for the most disadvantaged;

2. understand the roles of the different actors (public/private associations) involved in its understanding and implementation;

3. demonstrate that the problem, which exists in all societies, can be explored, with the characteristics and possibilities of each country and how design can give dignity to the lives of the most disadvantaged.

Teaching and learning methodologies include:

- presentation of concepts and learning based on projects carried out at ESTG;

- debates on the topics covered;

- volunteering activities with various associations in Viana to learn about practical cases;

- explanation of practical and collaborative work to consolidate knowledge and develop skills.

Speakers are invited to share their experiences in this area to enrich the debate.

As important as the transmission/exchange of knowledge is the acquisition of sensitivity to the social problems that exist in cities and at the same time awakening social awareness in participants and how they can be key actors in social innovation.
