International Seminar "From Exclusion to Experience: Building Neurodiverse-Friendly Tourism in Emerging Destinations" - May 15, 2026, DiGiES Department Council Hall

The Department of Law, Economics, and Human Sciences (DiGiES) and the Decisions LAB of the Università degli Studi Mediterranea di Reggio Calabria are pleased to host Professor Hazel Gant (University of Portsmouth, UK), an internationally renowned figure in studies on equity, diversity, and inclusion (EDI) and accessible and neurodiverse tourism practices.
This meeting is part of a broader framework of international academic cooperation: at the initiative of Professor Massimiliano Ferrara, Director of the Decisions LAB, advanced discussions are currently underway with the University of Portsmouth aimed at activating Erasmus mobility programs and, more importantly, establishing an advanced program in Economics as a Double Degree between the two universities. The initiative, conceived and promoted by Professor Ferrara, aims to offer our students a European-level education, integrating our Department's quantitative and analytical expertise with the consolidated British tradition in economics, management, and inclusive sustainability studies.
Professor Gant's seminar therefore represents not only an opportunity for in-depth scientific exploration of inclusion and neurodiverse tourism in emerging destinations, a growing area of relevance for Southern Italy and the Mediterranean, but also a significant first step in building a structured academic partnership between Reggio Calabria and Portsmouth.
The opening remarks will be given by Professor Massimo Finocchiaro Castro, Director of the DiGiES Department, while the introduction will be given by Professor Massimiliano Ferrara, Director of the Decisions LAB.

The event is open to professors, researchers, doctoral students, students, and the entire academic community.
