The second day of the 2026 Conference of Scientific, Space, and Agricultural Experts is now in full swing at the Atelier of the Università Mediterranea di Reggio Calabria. The event consolidates the University of Reggio Calabria's role as a strategic and propulsive bridge between advanced scientific research and the industrial market, continuing a trend of recently hosted prestigious scientific and cultural events.

The Rector of Mediterranea, Giuseppe Zimbalatti , welcomed the guests as President of Coruc . In his welcoming address, the Rector expressed his deep gratitude to the Vice President of the Council of Ministers and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Antonio Tajani, for choosing Reggio Calabria and its University:

Minister Tajani's announcement last summer, when he and Mayor Cannizzaro announced that this year's event would be held in Reggio Calabria, was wonderful news. Even more wonderful for us was the decision to hold a full day of work at our University. Today, we see firsthand the importance of this intense three-day event, which unites research, diplomacy, and the business world. We feel a responsibility to contribute, along with all the other institutional and private stakeholders, to transforming knowledge into concrete opportunities for people, businesses, and regions. This commitment is well-represented in the very title of the event: 'From the Laboratory to the Market. Frontier Technologies for Italy's Prosperity'.

Rector Zimbalatti also highlighted the perfect alignment between the summit's themes, some in particular, and the University's expertise, citing in particular the panels dedicated to "Science at the Service of Agriculture: Innovative Technologies, Sustainability, and the Future,"  the focus on urban regeneration, the one    on cultural heritage, entrusted to Mediterranea alumnus Livio De Luca, and the segments on start-ups and technology transfer that involved the entire university system. "The hope ," Zimbalatti concluded, " is that our contribution will be useful to our diplomats in their role of connecting Italian research with the world, fostering the country's growth."

Among the most anticipated contributions was the speech by Mauro Battocchi , Director General for the Promotion of the Country System of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, who reiterated the centrality of the choice of Reggio Calabria:

It was important to be in this region, which boasts above-average exports and immense potential. At this university with growing international reach, our network of sixty scientific, space, and agricultural staff represents a significant opportunity for expansion for the entire Calabria region. The Farnesina is strongly committed to the growth of businesses and academia through the cornerstones of science, culture, and internationalization. From Reggio Calabria, today we are launching the 'network of networks,' promoting Italian professionals in top positions abroad.
