Admission and Access to Study Courses
Italian candidates with a foreign qualification, European Union candidates residing anywhere, and non-European Union candidates legally residing in Italy or a European Union country are eligible for university courses if they hold a qualification corresponding to the required Italian qualification, provided it is recognized as suitable.
To be admitted to the degree programs , candidates must register with the Esse3 system and log in with SPID or their personal details.
The procedure is "Segreteria > Immatricolazione" (Admissions Office > Enrollment). Candidates must then complete the various steps by filling out the required fields and attaching:
- Valid identity card (only for Italian and EU/Schengen area citizens);
- The passport photo;
In the section relating to the High School Diploma, if the diploma was obtained abroad, it must be completed by entering the type "Foreign Diploma", attaching:
- Original of the secondary school diploma (obtained after at least 12 years of schooling), or a substitute certificate for all legal purposes, accompanied by a certified translation into Italian;
- Any certificate attesting to having passed academic aptitude tests , if required
for admission to the University of the respective country of origin, accompanied by a sworn translation into Italian; - Declaration of value of the foreign qualification issued by the
Italian diplomatic consular representation in the country where it was obtained, or alternatively Certificate of Comparability issued by the Italian ENIC-NARIC centre (CIMEA) ; - Legalization of the qualification or Apostille of the foreign qualification issued by the Italian diplomatic representation in the country where the foreign qualification was obtained or alternatively Verification Certificate issued by the Italian ENIC-NARIC centre (CIMEA) .
NB further documentation or testing may be required where necessary.
To be admitted to a two-year master's degree program, you must have a bachelor's degree or a three-year university diploma, or another equivalent qualification obtained abroad.
Verification of the qualification's suitability for admission to master's degree programs at the Università degli Studi Mediterranea di Reggio Calabria is entrusted to the relevant degree programs, which will verify the curricular requirements for holders of an Italian academic qualification.
Therefore, in addition to the documents listed above, the following must be attached:
- Original of the foreign qualification corresponding to the first cycle according to the Bologna Process qualifications framework and level 6 according to the European Qualifications Framework (EQF) obtained from a higher education institution that allows continuation of studies at academic institutions in the next level (second cycle of the Bologna Process/EQF level 7) and which does not present any “substantial difference” according to the principles of the Lisbon Convention and the national methodology adopted by the Italian ENIC-NARIC centre (CIMEA), provided with a sworn translation into Italian;
- Certificate issued by the competent higher education institution attesting to the exams passed, accompanied by a certified translation into Italian, as well as, for each discipline, the detailed programs for obtaining the aforementioned qualifications, accompanied by a translation. Post-secondary studies (exams and credits) already completed may be certified by the Diploma Supplement, where adopted;
- Declaration of value of the foreign qualification issued by the
Italian diplomatic consular representation in the country where it was obtained, or alternatively Certificate of Comparability issued by the Italian ENIC-NARIC centre (CIMEA); - Legalization of the qualification or Apostille of the foreign qualification issued by the Italian diplomatic representation in the country where the foreign qualification was obtained or alternatively Verification Certificate issued by the Italian ENIC-NARIC centre (CIMEA) .
NB further documentation or testing may be required where necessary.
Check Requirements
Once the required documents have been submitted, you will need to contact the International Mobility, International Student Enrollment, and Welcome Office at the University Campus, IV, II Floor, to request an appointment to submit the original documents listed above.
The office will check the completeness and administrative validity and will inform the Student Area to proceed with the enrollment.
The registration
Before proceeding to the final stages of enrollment, it is necessary to submit the ISEE-U form for the current year in order to authorize the University to acquire the data.
This document will also be used to request education benefits.
After paying the registration fee, the student is assigned a matriculation number:
a unique numeric identification code necessary for completing all formalities (paying fees, booking exams, etc.).
The student ID number helps protect student privacy because it is used in public spaces (noticeboards and web pages) instead of student data.
An institutional email address is then generated (in the format [email protected] ), which must be used for communicating with the University.
For non-EU citizens residing abroad and visa applicants with a foreign qualification, non-EU citizens residing abroad must submit the "pre-enrollment application" exclusively through the Universitaly portal: https://www.universitaly.it/.
Please note that pre-enrollment at the university does not guarantee an appointment at the diplomatic or consular offices to submit visa applications.
Please also remember that, as already reported in the ministerial circular entitled "Procedures for the entry, residence, enrollment of international students and the related recognition of qualifications, for higher education courses in Italy valid for the 2025/2026 academic year" on page 7, the prior acceptance of a candidate by the university does not confer any right to obtain a visa, given that the issuance of study visas is the exclusive responsibility of individual diplomatic-consular representations.

Step D:
SUMMARY
You will need to check your data and submit your pre-registration application.
Important: Pre-registration at the Italian Embassy alone does not guarantee admission to the degree courses.
After obtaining your visa, we will be waiting for you at our offices in Reggio Calabria with all the original documents you uploaded to the Universitaly form.
Check Requirements
The International Mobility, International Student Enrollment, and Welcome Office will verify the submitted documents. If any documentation is missing, additional documentation will be requested. If the documentation is complete, the office will validate the application and forward it to the Embassy. The applicant will receive confirmation of the validation.
The interested party must then contact the Embassy to schedule an appointment to issue the visa.
Upon arrival in Italy, the interested party must bring all original documentation, submitted during the pre-registration phase, to the International Mobility, International Student Enrollment and Welcome Office - University Campus IV, 2nd Floor, where the interested party will have requested an appointment in advance.
Students must submit an application for a study permit to the Reggio Calabria Police Headquarters within 8 working days of arriving in Italy.
Procedure for students who wish to request the kit
Students wishing to request the Kit must submit the request to the Police Headquarters.
Get the “Residence Permit” kit from one of the Italian Post Offices (post office, choose PT on the map) and enter all the information plus a revenue stamp (€16.00 fee).
Include in the kit:
- 1 copy of your passport with all pages;
- 1 passport photo;
- Copy of the Acceptance Letter issued by our University, with the stamp and signature of the Embassy certifying the study program to be followed;
- Copy of visa;
- Copy of health and accident insurance document, valid for the entire period of the residence permit;
- Copy of the rental agreement for the accommodation where you will be living in Reggio Calabria for your studies;
- A document certifying your financial sustainability;
- Postal payment slip (included in the kit) for paying the residence permit fee of €70.46.
Present the Kit with all the attachments to the Post Office , where you will be identified and will have to pay the related costs of €30.00. You will be given a receipt specifying the date of the appointment at the Police Headquarters;
On the day of presentation at the Police Headquarters, you will need to bring your photographs and be called to undergo photographic procedures and fingerprinting.
In cases where the dossier/kit needs to be integrated with further documentation, you will be informed by the Police Headquarters at the contact details indicated in the kit.
Upon presentation of the KIT, the Post Office will issue a receipt of delivery of the residence permit application , which is equivalent to the receipt of submission of the dossier produced at the Police Headquarters and which also serves as proof of authorized presence in Italy.
The receipt must be attached to the Esse3 registration procedure and must subsequently be integrated with the residence permit.
