Double Degree
A Double Degree , or binational degree , is an integrated study program aimed at obtaining a double degree abroad : thanks to an agreement between two or more universities, students from all over Italy can attend an international academic institution for one or two years . For the double degree to be recognized, the universities in question must have previously reached bilateral agreements comparing the academic curricula of the participating institutions. Classes and exams are generally taken in the language spoken at the host university. Upon completion of the studies, students earn two degrees, known as a double degree.
The Università degli Studi Mediterranea di Reggio Calabria has signed a double degree with Ain Shams University of Cairo , launching the “Program with structured student mobility and awarding of the double degree” in Architecture.
This agreement involves the Department of Architecture and Design (dAeD) of the Mediterranean University of Reggio Calabria and the Faculty of Engineering at Ain Shams University in Cairo, representing a significant step in the internationalization of the Master's Degree in Architecture offered by our university. The agreement offers students and the academic community of both countries an exciting international education opportunity, with significant personal and professional benefits.
The courses of study involved in the DDP agreement are:

Ain Shams University of Cairo (ASU) then forwards the list of nominated students to the Department of Architecture and Design (dAeD) of the Università Mediterranea di Reggio Calabria.
Once the necessary checks have been carried out, the Department of Architecture and Design (dAeD) office will send a communication to the nominated students, inviting them to submit a pre-enrollment application on the Universitaly portal. The list of nominated students will also be forwarded to the International Relations Office.
Nominated students will proceed with pre-registration on the Universitaly portal through:
- filling in the Personal Data Form, paying the utmost attention to the Name and Surname ( all names must be entered in the relevant “name” field, while the last name on your identification document must be entered in the “surname” field) ;

Finally, the office will admit the student with RESERVE STATUS, validate, and forward the pre-enrollment application to the relevant diplomatic mission (Embassy/Consulate).
Once the pre-enrollment has been validated, the student will request an appointment with the relevant diplomatic representation (Embassy/Consulate) to issue the VISA.
After passing checks at the relevant diplomatic mission (Embassy/Consulate) and obtaining the VISA, students can proceed to the next steps to reach the Università degli Studi ‘Mediterranea’ di Reggio Calabria.
Within 8 days of arriving in Reggio Calabria, students will complete the "KIT" required to apply for a residence permit.
At the police station they will ask for the tax code.
With the receipt of the kit and the tax code, the student will go to UNIRC.
Get the “Residence Permit” kit from one of the Italian Post Offices (post office, choose PT on the map) and enter all the information plus a revenue stamp (€16.00 fee).
Include in the kit:
- 1 copy of your passport with all pages;
- 1 passport photo;
- Copy of the Acceptance Letter issued by our University, with the stamp and signature of the Embassy certifying the study program to be followed;
- Copy of visa;
- Copy of health and accident insurance document, valid for the entire period of the residence permit;

On the day of presentation at the Police Headquarters, you will need to bring your photographs and be called to undergo photographic procedures and fingerprinting.
In cases where the dossier/kit needs to be integrated with further documentation, you will be informed by the Police Headquarters at the contact details indicated in the kit.
Upon presentation of the KIT, the Post Office will issue a receipt of delivery of the residence permit application , which is equivalent to the receipt of submission of the dossier produced at the Police Headquarters and which also serves as proof of authorized presence in Italy.
The receipt must be attached to the Esse3 registration procedure and subsequently integrated with the residence permit.
The student must register through the Esse3 procedure.
Subsequently, students will be supported in enrolling "conditionally" in the course of study until their previous academic career is recognized and they are enrolled in the year indicated in the agreement.
Students will be required to pay the fees agreed upon in the agreement.
After payments, students are assigned a student ID:
a unique numeric identification code required for all formalities (booking exams, taking exams, etc.).
The student ID number helps protect student privacy because it is used in public spaces (noticeboards and web pages) instead of student data.
An institutional email address is then generated (in the format [email protected] ), which must be used for communicating with the University.
According to the agreement in force between UNIRC and Ain Shams University in Cairo (2024-2028), during their period at the Università Mediterranea, students, even if they are winners of a Right to Education scholarship, will have to pay:
| Expires 09/30/2026 | Expires 12/21/2026 | Expires 03/22/2027 |
| Regional tax + Stamp duty | €250.00 1st installment | €250.00 2nd installment |
