The 2025 Researchers' Night is underway: a bridge between science and society.
The Università degli Studi Mediterranea di Reggio Calabria is participating again this year in the European Researchers' Night . This initiative, now in its twelfth year, is promoted by the European Commission to foster encounters between researchers and the public .
The program is rich and spread over several days, so as to involve the entire University of Reggio Calabria and with it the citizens.
On Friday, September 26, the traditional diploma award ceremony for new research graduates will take place in the Quistelli Aula Magna. The ceremony will feature the T. Gulli Music High School Orchestra and a lecture by Dario Lo Bosco, a professor at Mediterranea, currently CEO and General Manager of Italferr and former President of Rete Ferroviaria Italiana.
This afternoon, at Palazzo Zani, the DIGIES Department will present Claudio Cordova 's book "Socialized Crime. The Mafia on Social Networks. From Notes to Posts ," in the presence of the author.
Following this, starting at 6:00 pm, the Falcomatà seafront will host the inauguration of the photography exhibition “LABS. Laboratories in the City ,” iconic places of research, but increasingly also of cutting-edge education, and the “Change: How Science Improves Life” stand, where you can discuss and listen to researchers involved in Mediterranean research funded by the PNRR (Innovation Ecosystem, Tech4You).
It will also be possible to visit the NOEL laboratory and hear "tales of research among the sea waves" from those directly responsible.
At the end, the musical ensemble of the Mediterranean University will perform in the small bay in front of the laboratory .
On Monday, September 29th, in the morning, the Chemistry Laboratory at the DICEAM Engineering Department will be named in memory of Professor Rosario Pietropaolo , former Rector of our University. The renovation work on the Structures and Materials Testing Laboratory will also be completed.
During the same morning, the Department of AeD will open the doors of its laboratories to allow students and citizens to participate live in various experiments.
At 6:00 pm, the Department of Agriculture will hold a diagnostics and tree climbing demonstration on the rich and precious tree heritage of the Villa Comunale.
In the evening, in collaboration with the Charlie Chaplin Cinema Club , the event will close with the screening, at the University Cineforum Hall , of the film “Hidden Figures,” which tells the story of the African-American mathematician, scientist and physicist Katherine Johnson.
