The Department of Agriculture is Cardioprotected
Health care is one of the fundamental pillars of a prosperous society, and preventing heart disease is crucial to ensuring community well-being. Cardiovascular disease is one of the leading causes of death worldwide and represents a medical emergency requiring immediate intervention.
In response to this challenge, the Department of Agriculture at Università Mediterraenea in Reggio Calabria is applying an effective strategy to improve survival rates in the event of sudden cardiac arrest by training its staff to provide first aid in the event of cardiac arrest or airway obstruction in subjects of all ages.
Yesterday afternoon, a BLSD 118 course reserved for staff and some students was held in Reggio Calabria, in the premises of the Department of Agriculture of the Università Mediterranea, organised by the " Cristiano Papasidero BLSD Training Centre " , a centre created within the Prociv Arci Rizziconi ODV Group .
Thanks to the Director of the Department, Prof. Marco Poiana, who supported the initiative, which began with the staff. The idea was inspired by the need to learn how to use a tool made available by the University but which very few knew how to use: the defibrillator.
An automated external defibrillator (AED) is a vital tool in the event of sudden cardiac arrest (SCA), delivering an electrical shock that can restore normal heart rhythm, providing a valuable window of opportunity before advanced medical assistance arrives. However, the effectiveness of an AED depends on its speed of deployment; every minute of delay in administering defibrillation drastically reduces the victim's chances of survival by 10%. Thanks to this, the Department of Agriculture's facilities are now safer.
