Within the EU Funding Programmes 2014-2020, the Università Mediterranea has obtained resources for the projects listed below.
LIFE SILENT - " Sustainable Innovations for Long-life Environmental Noise Technologies "
(Project: 101114310 — LIFE22-ENV-IT-LIFE SILENT — LIFE-2022-SAP-ENV)
The project has as its general objective the development of sustainable and eco-friendly solutions to mitigate noise emissions from road and rail traffic in complex urban environments , where the implementation of noise mitigation measures along the propagation routes (noise barriers) is inapplicable for reasons of space and opportunity (visual impact, air circulation). During the project, noise-reducing pavements with recycled and non-toxic materials, coming from the paper and used tire supply chains, and low noise barriers, also made with recycled materials and innovative technologies, will be tested and developed to contain noise emissions from rail traffic.
The project pursues three specific objectives:
- Increase the durability of noise-reducing flooring to reduce its cost
- Improving the acoustic, structural and safety performance of low barriers, through the design and validation of an innovative product
- Define procedures to manage and implement noise mitigation measures in complex environmental scenarios
Pilot site
The developed solutions will be implemented in a pilot area located in the Muratella area of Rome, an urban area of the XI Municipality with approximately 154,974 inhabitants, crossed by the Rome-Fiumicino Airport railway line managed by RFI, and by the A91 motorway managed by Anas.
