The Achieve-it project aims to promote Italian higher education institutions in Africa. It is based on an innovative approach to educational cooperation between Africa and Europe, grounded in sustainability, excellence, capacity development, and scalability, as envisioned by the AU-EU Innovation Agenda, which is committed to strengthening long-term research cooperation between Africa and Europe.

Achieve-it involves seven Italian universities and 38 African institutions spread across all African regions (North, Central, East, West, and South). The African institutions belong to the following 16 countries : Algeria, Burundi, Cameroon, Cape Verde, Egypt, Ethiopia, Ghana, Kenya, Mozambique, Niger, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Rwanda, Senegal, South Africa, Tanzania, and Tunisia.

Achieve-it is based on 3 key actions

  • KA1 - Promotion of the educational offerings already available at Italian universities, with a total of 33 master's programs taught in English and 15 doctoral programs. These activities will be carried out both in Italy and Africa and will involve 149 incoming and 89 outgoing students.
  • KA2 - Creation of 23 Advanced Skills Programs (ASPs), aimed at both students and teaching staff, developed within the project and intended to remain ongoing after its conclusion. The ASPs cover nine different general areas and will involve 221 incoming students and 100 outgoing teachers; 14 ASPs will be held in Italy and nine in Africa.
  • KA3 - Formalization of joint research activities through joint Italian-African doctorates, intended to remain permanent after the project's conclusion (WP4). Mobility flows related to research activities, carried out both in Italy and Africa, will involve 80 researchers and 93 doctoral students.

Achieve-it is structured into 6 work packages (WP):

  • WP 1 – Project Management and Coordination
  • WP 2 – Opening Pathways: Exploitation of Italian Excellence
  • WP 3 – Establishing Permanent Advanced Skills Programs in Italy and Africa
  • WP 4 – Bridging Future: Towards the Systematization of Joint Doctoral Programmes
  • WP 5 – Dissemination and Collaborative Networking
  • WP 6 – Quality plan and assessment
