The first degree of an inmate from the Mediterranea Penitentiary University Center

During the October session, a student at the Università Mediterranea di Reggio Calabria, who began and completed his university studies while incarcerated at the "G. Panzera" penitentiary in Reggio Calabria, earned a degree in Economics, defending a thesis in Economics and Business Management.

This achievement was made possible thanks to the University Penitentiary Center, a collaboration between the Università Mediterranea and the Regional Penitentiary Administration Office, and the commitment of the University's faculty and administrative staff, as well as the management and staff of the penitentiary institutions.

"I am deeply satisfied with this achievement, which is primarily due to the student and their determination," stated Rector Giuseppe Zimbalatti. "I would like to thank Dr. Rosario Tortorella, Director of the "G. Panzera" Penitentiary Institutions, and Professor Arturo Capone, University Delegate for the University Penitentiary Center, for their commitment to this journey. My thanks also go to all the people who work to animate the Center and make its activities possible, contributing to the achievement of these results. We will continue to work together to ensure that university education offers prisoners a concrete opportunity to invest in themselves and plan their future."
