“Risk - Recovery Increasing by Social Knowledge”

On April 29, 2026, from 2:00 PM to 7:00 PM, the Department of Excellence in Information, Infrastructure, and Sustainable Energy Engineering (DIIES) at the Università degli Studi Mediterranea di Reggio Calabria will host the event "RECOVERY INCREASING BY SOCIAL KNOWLEDGE." This final event will present the research results, organized as part of the "PRIN2022-RISK" research project, funded by the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR).

The PRIN 2022 - "RISK" research project, entitled "RECOVERY INCREASING BY SOCIAL KNOWLEDGE", concerns disaster mitigation by working on social preparedness.

The project's scientific core examines the Preparedness and Mitigation phases , highlighting the actions to be taken before the event to reduce the impact of natural hazards. The primary objective is to bridge the gap between academic research and real-world emergency management, using social knowledge and technological frameworks to improve urban resilience and transport safety. The project is funded by the Ministry of University and Research (MUR) and involved two Operating Units: the DIIES of the Università Mediterranea, which coordinated the research, led by Professor Francesco Russo; and the DINCI of the University of Calabria, led by Professor Vittorio Astarita.

The opening address will be given by Professor Corrado Rindone of the Università degli Studi Mediterranea di Reggio Calabria.

Institutional greetings will be delivered by the Rector, Professor Giuseppe Zimbalatti , the Deputy Pro-Rector, Professor Massimo Lauria , the Pro-Rector for Internationalization, Professor Paolo Fuschi , and the Pro-Rector of the University of Calabria, Professor Fabio Bruno . Greetings will also be delivered by the Director of the Doctoral School of the Mediterranea, Professor Felice Arena , and the Directors of the DIIES and DICEAM Departments, Professors Claudio De Capua and Giuseppe Barbaro , as well as the coordinators of the engineering doctorates, Professor Matilde Pietrafesa and Professor Tommaso Isernia . The greetings will be concluded by the President of the Italian Society of Transport Teachers (SIDT), Professor Stefano Carrese

The program includes invited talks by Pedro Homem de Gouveia of the European POLIS network and Mauro Dolce , president of ReLUIS, an inter-university consortium of Seismic and Structural Engineering.

At the end, the results of the RISK research project will be presented by professors, PhDs, and PhD students from the participating universities, including Marialuisa Moschella, Domenico Sgro, Vittorio Astarita, and Sina Shaffiee Haghshenas.

The core of the discussion will consist of two round tables, entitled "From research to real emergencies", moderated by the journalist Piero Gaeta, with contributions from professors ( Antonio Comi, Giuseppe Musolino, Antonio Polimeni, Paola Panuccio ), professionals ( Antonio Cartisano, Giuseppe Delfino), managers (Vincenzo Assumma, Giovanna Chilà, Agata Quattrone ), and the Presidents of the professional orders of engineers and architects, engineer Francesco Foti and architect Santina Dattola

The event will conclude with the final conclusions of Prof. Antonino Vitetta , Vice-Rector for Teaching at the Università degli Studi Mediterranea di Reggio Calabria.
