The final deed of acquisition of the Monfort Fathers' property complex, located in the Parco Caserta area, by the Università Mediterranea di Reggio Calabria was signed today. The area, as is known, will host the nascent "Università Mediterranea Campus . "

The historic agreement was signed by the Rector of the Università degli Studi Mediterranea di Reggio Calabria, Professor Giuseppe Zimbalatti , and the representative of the Ecclesiastical Institution of the Italian Province of the Monfort Missionaries, Father Angelo Sorti .

With this acquisition, the Università Mediterranea Reggio Calabria takes possession of one of the city's most historically significant and socially crucial sites. The goal is to initiate a process of profound urban, architectural, and functional regeneration of the entire area.

The project, which will benefit from €4 million in funding provided by the 2025-2027 Budget Law, initiated by then-Deputy and now Mayor Francesco Cannizzaro, represents a strategic step for the University, as part of its plan to enhance its residential offerings and student services. The future Campus will be conceived as a multifunctional and interdisciplinary space, a place for cultural encounters and exchange, capable of strengthening the dialogue between Europe and the Mediterranean. A true bridge between regions, knowledge, and communities, it will welcome Italian and international students, with a particular focus on young people from the Mediterranean region and those affected by humanitarian crises.

"Università Mediterranea Campus,"  declared Rector Professor Giuseppe Zimbalatti, "  is born with a strong international ambition: we want it to be a vibrant place of cultural exchange, an infrastructure of excellence where knowledge meets solidarity and inclusion. We will offer our students, and especially young people from disadvantaged areas or crisis-ridden Mediterranean areas, a shared home and cutting-edge services. At the same time, we will restore to the city a fully regenerated urban space, an open and vibrant hub that will enhance the entire city of Reggio Calabria, positioning it as a capital of cooperation, research, and education in the heart of the Mediterranean geopolitical basin."
