Università Mediterranea on the research podium: the Department of Agriculture wins the "Roberto Massini" Award

Scientific excellence and the ability to network with the local community have rewarded the Università Mediterranea di Reggio Calabria. Dr. Antonio Gattuso, a researcher in the Department of Agriculture, has been awarded the prestigious national prize named after Professor Roberto Massini, a historic figure in the Italian food technology scene.

The award, created to honor the memory of the professor, was established by the Prof. Roberto Massini Foundation - ETS in collaboration with the Italian Society of Food Technologies (SISTAl). The goal is to recognize the best research and technology transfer activities in the fields of food formulation, processing, and preservation.

Dr. Gattuso's success is rooted in the Department of Agriculture at Mediterranea, where he earned both his master's degree and his PhD in Food Science and Technology. A brilliant academic career, focused on sustainable innovation and engagement with local production.

This achievement confirms the University of Reggio's leadership role in agri-food innovation. The award also recognizes the long-standing work of Professor Marco Poiana, Professor of Food Technology and Director of the Department of Agriculture, who leads a research group capable of developing outstanding national figures.

The award ceremony took place in Catania on June 26, during the SISTAl national conference hosted by the University of Catania. The award was presented by Dr. Giuliana Cugini-in-Massini (President of the Foundation), along with Professor Dino Mastrocola (President of SISTAl), and Professors Massimiliano Rinaldi, Francesco Caponio, Monica Anese, and Antonio Derossi.
