Brain-Computer Interfaces and Neurotechnologies
The Master Class “Brain-Computer Interfaces and Neurotechnologies” was held from May 25 to 29, 2026, promoted by the AILAB laboratory of the Università Mediterranea di Reggio Calabria in collaboration with g.tec medical engineering, an Austrian company of international reference in the neurotechnology sector, and with the “AI for Neural Engineering” Section (coordinated by Prof. Nadia Mammone) of the International Neural Network Society (INNS), an authoritative international scientific society in the field of artificial intelligence, of which Prof. Francesco Carlo Morabito is president.
The Master Class, held by g.tec medical engineering, included 30 hours of advanced training (in English), divided into theoretical activities, workshops, and practical sessions dedicated to the latest methodologies and applications in the field of Brain-Computer Interfaces (BCI) and neurotechnologies.
The initiative offered participants the opportunity to explore topics of particular relevance to interdisciplinary research, including multimodal biosignal recording, with the acquisition of EEG and ECG signals and eye-tracking data, the control of devices through brain signals, and the conduct of cognitive experiments in simulated environments.
Particular emphasis was placed on hands-on activities, allowing participants to directly use advanced tools and technologies, exploring research issues and methodologies in neuroscience, artificial intelligence, and human-machine interaction, and developing a system from scratch to control a robot using electrical brain signals.
The Master Class represented an example of advanced training focused on research and innovation, in keeping with the international and interdisciplinary nature of doctoral training. The involvement of an internationally renowned industrial partner and a scientific society like INNS also fostered the exchange of expertise, tools, and perspectives from the international neurotechnology context.
