The SUNS project saw strong participation at the Università Mediterranea di Reggio Calabria for the national cybersecurity kickoff.

The kick-off meeting of the national SUNS (Secure Ubiquitous Networks and Services) project, dedicated to cybersecurity and the networks of the future, was held on October 16th in the Aula Magna of Engineering at the Università Mediterranea di Reggio Calabria. The project is funded under the PNRIC 2021-2027, in continuity with the investments of the PNRR.

The initiative was a resounding success, with over 100 professors and researchers from across Italy gathering to launch scientific activities and define collaboration opportunities. The Università Mediterranea plays a central role in the project, with Professor Francesco Buccafurri of the DIIES Department holding national scientific responsibility. This recognition confirms the University of Reggio Calabria's ability to play a leading role in research and technological innovation at the national level.

SUNS involves 21 entities, including the SERICS and RESTART Foundations, 10 universities, the CNR (National Research Council), the CINI and CNIT national consortia, and 6 industrial partners. The project aims to address the challenges of digital security through a multidisciplinary approach, integrating scientific research, technological development, and industrial applications. Special attention is paid to Southern Italy, with the goal of leveraging the results of research developed under the PNRR and promoting their transfer to the productive system, including through the creation of an Innovation Hub.

With the successful kickoff and the national scientific coordination of SUNS, the Università Mediterranea di Reggio Calabria consolidates its leading role in cybersecurity research, contributing to the development of strategic technologies and strengthening innovation in Southern Italy and throughout the country.
