Interuniversity Nursing Umg-UniRC

The Nursing Degree Program is structured over three academic years for a total of 180 university credits (CFU). In the Nursing Degree Program, training is accomplished through lectures (classroom teaching), guided study, seminars, exercises, tutorials, self-study activities, and internships. The student's commitment to the internship is significant, as it alone represents a third of the course, accounting for 60 credits. The training program, for each academic year, is organized into two semesters. At the end of each course, students are assessed through an exam, which, upon passing, allows the credits attributed to that course to be recognized. Upon passing all the exams required by the curriculum, students are admitted to the final degree exam. Students can enjoy state-of-the-art facilities at the Mediterranean University of Reggio Calabria (educational activities, seminars, etc.) and the “Bianchi-Melacrino Morelli” Metropolitan Hospital of Reggio Calabria (training placements).

Function in a work context

The degree program aims to train nurses who, upon completion of the training, will have acquired knowledge, skills, and interpersonal skills in accordance with the European Qualification Descriptors (Ministerial Decree 16/03/2007, art. 3, paragraph 7). Graduates in Nursing, hereinafter referred to as "Nurses," are healthcare professionals in the Nursing field who, with professional autonomy, perform activities aimed at the prevention, treatment, and protection of individual and community health, using planning methodologies for care objectives in childhood, adulthood, and the elderly, in accordance with the regulations governing the qualification and the relevant professional profile defined by decree of the Minister of Health. "Nurses" graduates are adequately trained in basic disciplines, enabling them to better understand the most relevant elements underlying the pathological processes on which their preventive and/or therapeutic interventions focus. They must also be proficient in at least one European Union language, in addition to Italian, in their specific area of expertise and for the exchange of general information. Specifically, Nursing graduates, based on the aforementioned training programs, must achieve the professional skills listed and specified below. Professional skills are achieved through theoretical and practical training, which also includes the acquisition of behavioral skills and is delivered in a specific work context. This ensures, upon completion of the training program, full mastery of all necessary skills and their immediate application in the workplace, with particular attention to neurodisability, frailty, and community nursing care. Particularly important, as an integral and qualifying component of professional training, are practical training and internships, carried out under the supervision and guidance of specially assigned professional tutors and coordinated by a teacher with the highest level of training required for the professional profile and in accordance with European standards, where applicable. The training program places particular emphasis on in-depth knowledge of chronic diseases, neurodisability, frailty, and information technology applied to nursing, along with the regulations governing the processing of sensitive data in this area.

Skills associated with the function

Nursing graduates work in public and private healthcare facilities, both in the community and in home care, as employees or freelancers. They contribute to the training of support staff and directly contribute to professional development and research, as required by the Ministry of Health's Ministerial Decree no. 744 of 1994 and subsequent amendments and additions.

Career opportunities

The course prepares for the nursing profession (ISTAT codes) (3.2.1.1.1).
