Erasmus+ Blended Intensive Programmes

Erasmus+ BIP - Blended Intensive Programmes

The Università degli Studi Mediterranea di Reggio Calabria pursues the experimental and innovative objectives envisaged by the new Erasmus+ program, and aims to unite groups of students and host teachers from other partner universities to undertake an international exchange training program .

Erasmus Blended Intensive Programmes (BIP) are a new type of short and intensive mobility that allows for an internationalisation experience that combines a short physical mobility with a mandatory virtual component, in which joint groups of students, teaching staff and administrative staff from different countries can participate to collaborate on specific tasks collectively and simultaneously.

With objectives focused on fostering inter-institutional collaboration, innovating educational offerings, equipping students with future-oriented skills, promoting cultural and academic exchange, and ensuring academic recognition, the BIP proposes a flexible and interdisciplinary curriculum. This initiative is designed to broaden participants' global perspectives, enhance employability, and support high standards of academic excellence.

Mixed intensive programmes must award at least 3 ECTS credits to students.

Eligible participating organisations: A Blended Intensive Programme (BIP) must be designed and implemented by at least 3 ECHE-holding HEIs from at least 3 Programme Countries. In addition, any other HEI or organisation established in a Programme Country may participate. HEIs implementing the BIP may sign a multilateral inter-institutional agreement.

Location of the activity: A blended intensive programme is coordinated by a Higher Education Institution holding an ECHE, which is usually also the host location for the activities to be carried out in person; however, the Educational Institutions that contribute to the organisation of the BIP can choose a different location within the partnership.

Duration of the activity: Physical mobility ranges from 5 to 30 days. There is no minimum duration for the virtual component, however combined physical and virtual mobility must award a minimum of 3 ECTS credits to students.

Eligible participants: The minimum number of participants in a mixed intensive programme for the in-person activity is 15 learners, i.e. students and learning staff involved in the BIP – excluding teachers and trainers – in Erasmus+ mobility. Additional participants are admitted if they come from higher education institutions of a Programme Country. Students from higher education institutions of a Partner Country can also participate in the BIP but they do not count towards the minimum number of 15 participants as they do not receive an Erasmus+ grant. There is no maximum number of participants, however a balance in the ratio between the number of learners and teachers/trainers is recommended for an effective training activity.
