Erasmus Student Network (ESN)

The Erasmus Student Network (ESN) is an interdisciplinary European student association. Founded on October 16, 1989, and legally registered in 1990, it supports and develops international student mobility activities.

ESN works to support and develop "Student Exchange" at different levels and to provide an intercultural experience also to those students who cannot access a period of study abroad (" internatiolisation at home ").

The objectives and principles of ESN, in summary, are:

• initiatives of interest to students on mobility;
• improve social integration;
• represent the needs and rights of mobile students at local, national and international levels;
• provide useful information on mobility programs;
• motivate students to study abroad;
• support students during their reintegration into their university;
• contribute to improving the accessibility of student mobility;
• Caring channel partners who embody the values ​​of volunteering and active citizenship.

ESN Italy , founded in 1994, is the national level of the Erasmus Student Network , which has 53 local sections distributed across 48 Italian cities with over 2,500 active members who work on a voluntary basis, providing services to approximately 20,000 Erasmus students and others who come to Italy every year.

ESN's main goal is to promote the social and personal integration of students participating in exchange programs. Local chapters offer support, guidance, and information to all these students. They also organize trips, parties, and activities to promote European integration, in keeping with the motto "united in diversity . "

The principles that inspire ESN Italy are:

• work in the interests of mobile students, in order to improve their social and practical integration;
• represent the needs and expectations of mobile students at local, national, and international levels;
• provide information on ESN academic exchanges and resources;
• work towards the reintegration of students returning from mobility programmes;
• contribute to different exchange programs.

ESN  Rhegium  (Erasmus Student Network Reggio Calabria) , founded in September 2006 by some students from Reggio Calabria with study experiences abroad to promote the European student mobility project, joined the ESN Italy network during the National Platform in December 2006.

Closely linked to the Università degli Studi Mediterranea di Reggio Calabria , ESN Rhegium enrolls an average of 80 to 100 students each year, including Erasmus students. 

Since its inception, the section has provided various services for Erasmus students in the city. In collaboration with neighboring sections, it organizes annual trips to explore and learn about the Strait of Messina area, along with activities to facilitate the integration of European students into Reggio Calabria society and to showcase the historical and cultural heritage of the City of the Strait of Messina.

Precisely for this reason, ESN Italy is ready to support all future Erasmus students thanks to a special project: AskErasmus , a project that allows all students studying in Italy to get in touch with those who have already undertaken an exchange period in the same country, the same city... or maybe even the same university!
