Third Mission
In a society where there is a strong sense of responsibility for the activities and impacts universities have on the communities they serve, and for the opportunities to expand the boundaries of knowledge, the importance of dialogue between science and society is more relevant than ever.
In the R&D sector, there is a commitment to financially valorizing the skills and results of research - as well as to strengthening and maintaining an active direct line of communication between research, technological innovation and citizens - strengthening the relationships between training systems and the employment and production market on the one hand, and between the world of scientific research and the entrepreneurial fabric on the other.
Third Mission activities have always constituted a solid specific area of action for Mediterranea, which already in its Statute (art. 1 paragraph 1) defines its socio-cultural project:
The Università Mediterranea di Reggio Calabria […] promotes the development and progress of culture and science through research and education, quality services for students and the local community, the transmission of ethical and civic values, innovation and technology transfer, in collaboration with economic and social stakeholders, and cooperation with national and international research institutions and institutions. Since its inception, the University has been committed to playing a central role in the ethical, civic, cultural, and economic growth and sustainable development of Calabria and the country as a whole through the improvement of its skills, the integration of knowledge, and collaboration with the national and international scientific community.
