Activity

  • November 25, 2022 - International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women. The University of Reggio has organized some initiatives to raise awareness and reflect on the topic.
    • On the evening of November 24, the Mediterranean University lights up in orange, a symbol of a future without violence.
    • On November 25, in the various facilities of the University of Reggio, installation of "red shoes", to not forget the victims of femicide and to say no to all forms of discrimination and violence.
    • presentation of a video made with the involvement of the University's students .
  • From 01/05/2017 to 30/04/2021 Project “Gender Equality in Engineering through Communication and Commitment” (GEECCO), funded by the Horizon 2020 research and innovation program ( http://www.geecco.unirc.it/ ).
  • November 25, 2021 - “A red bench in the University”. A red bench was inaugurated at the Torri complex of the University Citadel as a symbol and warning against gender violence in all its forms and against any type of discrimination. The initiative, promoted by the Single Guarantee Committee (CUG) of the Mediterranean University, aims to convey a signal of awareness aimed at the new generations by placing the symbol of “non-violence against women” right inside the University, a primary place of educational and cultural growth for male and female students.
  • 23 November 2020 - United against Violence against Women. Proclaimed by the United Nations General Assembly in 1999, the Università Mediterranea adheres to the initiative confirming its commitment to the fight against all forms of discrimination and violence against women, which continues to be a serious and unacceptable obstacle to the enjoyment of women's rights and their full personal fulfillment. 25 years after the historic Beijing Declaration on Women's Rights, an alarm signal comes at a time when we are witnessing an increase in cases of violence against women, all over the world, due to the restrictions caused by the pandemic.
The Università Mediterranea is actively engaged on this issue at different levels, the contributions come from:
    - training (aimed at both students and professionals)
    - research
    - data collection
    - third mission and internationalization
    - valorization and promotion of best practices
as demonstrated by the activities carried out by the University in the period 2016-2019, the detection of which was carried out by the Single Guarantee Committee of the Università Mediterranea degli Studi di Reggio Calabria.
  • Awareness campaign against violence against women in the time of coronavirus
  • October 13-October 27, 2020 Questionnaire on Gender Equality - A Survey on Gender Equality in the Mediterranean
  • February 11, 2020 - International Day of Women in Science. Event established by the United Nations General Assembly in December 2015 and sponsored by UNESCO. The goal is to increase the number of girls studying science and combat dropouts during their studies, to have more women in laboratories, universities, research institutes and, more generally, increase the percentage of women in prestigious positions. Over the past 15 years, great efforts have been made globally to involve women in science, but prejudices and gender stereotypes remain that continue to keep girls and women away from the scientific world. The numbers translate this gap eloquently: less than 30% of researchers worldwide are women and only 30% of girls choose a scientific path in higher education. Events are planned around the world on this day. The Mediterranean University dedicates this day to all the women and girls who work in our University with passion, perseverance and commitment, in different professional profiles. Having overcome difficulties, having believed in themselves, having been successful even in non-traditionally feminine fields, must represent not only a stimulus but also a valid example.
