Admission and Access to Study Courses
Admission procedures are various depending on one's personal situation.

Italian candidates in possession of a foreign qualification, European Union candidates wherever they reside and non-European Union candidates regularly residing in Italy or in a European Union country, may access university courses if they hold a qualification corresponding to the required Italian qualification, provided that it is recognised as suitable.
In order to be admitted to Degree Courses, candidates must register with the Esse3 procedure and log in with SPID or with their own personal data.
The path to follow in the procedure is Segreteria > Enrolment, then you will have to perform the various steps by filling in the required fields, attaching
- A valid identity card (only for Italian and EU/Shengen area citizens);
- Passport photo;
In the section on High School Diploma, if the diploma was obtained abroad, you must complete by entering the type ‘Foreign Diploma’, attaching :
- Original high school diploma (obtained after at least 12 years of schooling), or substitute certificate for all legal purposes provided with a sworn translation in Italian;
- Any certificate attesting to having passed academic aptitude tests, if required
for access to the university of the respective country of origin with a sworn translation into Italian; - Declaration of value of the foreign qualification issued by the Italian diplomatic
Consular Representation in the country where it was awarded, or alternatively Statement of Comparability issued by the Italian ENIC-NARIC centre (CIMEA); - Legalisation of the qualification or Apostille of the foreign qualification issued by the Italian Diplomatic Representation in the country where it was obtained, or alternatively Statement of Verification issued by the Italian ENIC-NARIC centre (CIMEA).
N.B. Further documentation or tests may be requested where necessary.
In order to be admitted to a two-year Master's degree course, it is necessary to be in possession of a Bachelor's degree or a three-year university diploma, or another qualification obtained abroad and recognised as suitable.
The verification of the suitability of the qualification for access to Master Degree Courses at the Università degli Studi Mediterranea di Reggio Calabria is entrusted to the competent courses of study, which will verify the curricular requirements for holders of Italian academic qualifications.
Therefore, in addition to the documents listed above, the following must be attached :
- Original of the foreign official qualification corresponding to the first or second cycle of the Bologna Process qualifications framework and level 6 or 7 according to the European Qualifications Framework (EQF), depending on entry to second or third cycle courses, obtained at a higher education institution which allows on-site continuation of studies at academic institutions at the next level (second cycle or third cycle of the Bologna Process/level 7 or 8 EQF) and which does not present any ‘substantial difference’ according to the principles of the Lisbon Convention and the national methodology adopted by the Italian ENIC-NARIC centre (CIMEA) provided with a sworn translation in Italian;
- Certificate issued by the competent institution of higher education certifying the examinations passed provided with a sworn translation into Italian, as well as, for each discipline, the detailed programmes for the achievement of the aforementioned qualifications provided with a translation. Post-secondary studies (examinations and credits) already completed may be attested by the Diploma Supplement, where adopted;
- Declaration of value of the foreign qualification issued by the diplomatic representation
Consular Representation in the country where it was obtained, or alternatively Statement of Comparability issued by the Italian ENIC-NARIC centre (CIMEA); - Legalisation of the qualification or Apostille of the foreign qualification issued by the Italian Diplomatic Representation in the country where the foreign qualification was obtained or, alternatively, Statement of Verification issued by the Italian ENIC-NARIC centre (CIMEA).

Verification of requirements
Once the required documents have been entered, you should contact the International Mobility, International Student Enrolment and Welcome office at the Citadella Universitaria IV cue II Floor, to request an appointment for the presentation of the original of the documents listed above.
The office will check for completeness and administrative validity and will inform the Student Area to proceed with enrolment.
Enrolment
Before proceeding to the final stages of enrolment, it is necessary to produce the ISEE-U model for the current year in order to give the University authorisation to acquire the data.
This document will also be used to apply for the right to study benefits.
Following payment of the enrolment fee, the student is assigned a matriculation number:
a unique numeric identification code needed to carry out all the paperwork (payment of fees, booking exams, etc.).
The matriculation number protects the student's privacy as it is used on public spaces (notice boards and web pages) in place of his or her data.
An institutional e-mail address is then generated (in the format [email protected]), which must be used to communicate with the University.
For non-European citizens residing abroad and visa applicants, with a foreign qualification Non-EU citizens residing abroad must necessarily submit the "pre-enrolment application" exclusively through the Universitaly portal: https://www.universitaly.it/.
Instructions for submitting the pre-enrollment application on Universitaly
Register here (change the language by clicking on the flags at the top right);
- Fill in the required fields to create your profile (remember to enter the data exactly as described in your passport);
- You will receive an email to confirm your account and complete the registration by setting the password;
- Click on Pre-Enrollment Application > New Pre-Enrollment Application to get started.
You can only submit one pre-enrollment application for the 2025/2026 academic year, choosing a university and a course of study.
Step A:
- Choose the academic year (2025/2026);
- Fill in your personal details.
Step B:
- Enter your passport details (please be careful to enter all names);
- Insert your passport photo;
- Indicate at which Embassy/Consulate you will request the visa and the reason (for example: "I want to enroll in a course of study", or other);
- Select "Università degli Studi Mediterranea di Reggio Calabria" , we recommend that you pay close attention at this stage because in the event of an error the university cannot support the user;
- Select and enter the chosen course.
It is not necessary to enter "Account ID at the University/AFAM/Institute"
Step C:
Please enter all documents required for Admission:
- Original of the secondary school diploma (obtained after at least 12 years of schooling ), or a substitute certificate valid for all legal purposes, accompanied by a sworn translation into Italian;
- Certificate attesting to having passed the academic suitability tests , if required for admission to the universities of the respective countries of origin, accompanied by a sworn translation into Italian;
- Declaration of value of the foreign qualification issued by the Italian diplomatic consular representation in the country in which it was obtained, or alternatively Statement of Comparability issued by the Italian ENIC-NARIC centre (CIMEA);
- Legalization of the qualification or Apostille of the foreign qualification issued by the Italian diplomatic representation in the country where the foreign qualification was obtained or alternatively Statement of Verification issued by the Italian ENIC-NARIC centre (CIMEA) .
- Certification of knowledge of the Italian language Level B2, acquired through the CISIA TEST online procedure CISIA ITA-L2 (Bravo!) or through the methods provided for by the Degree Course. Students in possession of the requirements set out in art. 6 of Circular-2025-2026 https://www.universitaly.it/studenti-stranieri are exempt from the test . The certification or test of knowledge of the language level B2 is required for all languages in which the course is taught (for example, if the course of study is taught in both languages, Italian and English, the certification/test is required for both).
NB further documentation or testing may be required where necessary.
If you are requesting pre-enrolment in a master's degree course (two-year), please also attach:
- Original of the official foreign qualification corresponding to the first or second cycle of the Bologna Process qualifications framework and level 6 or 7 according to the European Qualifications Framework (EQF), depending on the entry to second or third cycle courses, obtained at a higher education institution that allows the continuation of studies at academic institutions in the next level (second or third cycle of the Bologna Process/level 7 or 8 EQF) and which does not present any "substantial difference" according to the principles of the Lisbon Convention and the national methodology adopted by the Italian ENIC-NARIC centre (CIMEA) provided with a sworn translation into Italian;
- Certificate issued by the competent higher education institution attesting the exams passed, accompanied by a sworn translation into Italian, as well as for each discipline, the detailed programs for obtaining the aforementioned qualifications, accompanied by a translation. Post-secondary studies (exams and credits) already completed may be certified by the Diploma Supplement, where adopted;
- Declaration of value of the foreign qualification issued by the
Italian diplomatic consular representation in the country where it was obtained, or alternatively Statement of Comparability issued by the Italian ENIC-NARIC centre (CIMEA); - Legalization of the qualification or Apostille of the foreign qualification issued by the Italian diplomatic representation in the country where the foreign qualification was obtained or alternatively Statement of Verification issued by the Italian ENIC-NARIC centre (CIMEA) .

Step D:
SUMMARY
You will have to check your data and send the pre-registration application.
Important: Pre-registration at the Italian Embassy alone does not guarantee admission to the degree courses.
After obtaining the visa, we will wait for you in Reggio Calabria at our offices with all the original documents that you have uploaded in the Universitaly form.
Check Requirements
The International Mobility Sector, International Student Enrollment and Welcome Office will verify the documents entered, in case of missing documentation an integration will be requested; in case of completeness of the documentation the office will validate the application and forward it to the Embassy. The interested party will receive a communication of the validation.
The interested party must then contact the Embassy to have an appointment for the issuing of the visa.
Once in Italy, the interested party must bring all the original documentation, inserted during the pre-registration phase, to the International Mobility Sector, International Student Registration and Welcome Office - University Campus IV Stecca II Floor, where the interested party will have previously requested an appointment.
The student, within 8 working days of arriving in Italy, is required to submit the request for a residence permit for study reasons to the Police Headquarters of Reggio Calabria.
Procedure for students who wish to request the kit
Students who wish to request the Kit must present the request at the Police Headquarters.
Get the “Permesso di soggiorno” kit at one of the Poste Italiane offices (post office, choose PT on the map here) and enter all the data plus a revenue stamp (fee of €16.00).
Include in the kit:
- 1 copy of your passport complete with all pages;
- 1 passport photo;
- Copy of the Acceptance Letter issued by our University, with the stamp and signature of the Embassy certifying the course of study to be followed;
- Copy of visa;
- Copy of the health and accident insurance document, valid for the entire period of the residence permit;
- Copy of the rental/lease contract of the accommodation where you will be domiciled in Reggio Calabria for your studies;
- A document certifying your economic sustainability;
- Postal payment slip (included in the Kit) with which you pay the residence permit tax of €70.46.
Present the Kit with all the attachments to the Post Office , where you will be identified and will have to pay the related costs of €30.00, you will be given a receipt where the date for the appointment at the Police Headquarters will be specified;
On the day of presentation at the Police Headquarters , you will have to bring your photographs and be called to undergo photographic procedures and take your fingerprints.
In cases where the dossier/kit needs to be integrated with further documentation, you will be informed by the Police Headquarters at the contact details indicated in the kit.
Upon presentation of the KIT, the Post Office will produce a receipt of delivery of the residence permit request which is equivalent to the receipt of presentation of the dossier produced at the Police Headquarters and which also serves as certification of authorised presence in Italy.
The receipt must be attached to the Esse3 registration procedure, and must subsequently be integrated with the residence permit.
The enrolmet
Before proceeding to the final stages of enrolment, it is necessary to produce the ISEE-U form for the current year in order to give the University authorization to acquire the data.
This document will also be used to request the benefits of the right to study.
After paying the registration fee, the student is assigned a matriculation number:

The institutional email address is then generated (in the format [email protected]), which must be used to communicate with the University.
International students who have obtained an Italian diploma valid for access to the university system must contact the International Mobility Sector, International Student Enrolment and Welcome Office to present their residence permit or application receipt.
Once the data has been collected, the Sector will inform the Student Area to proceed with the enrolment.
