Department of excellence

Closely linked to the results of the Research Quality Evaluation is the five-year financial support intervention, provided by law 232 of 2016 for the best 180 departments of state universities, recipients of a total annual budget of 271 million euros.

The ranking is built with a multi-stage process, based on the standardized departmental performance indicator - ISPD - which identifies at a national level and within the 14 CUN areas, the departments that stand out for the high quality of the research produced in the five-year period observed, and for the quality of the development project in the following five-year period.

In the legal field, the Department of Law and Economics of the University achieved an excellent result in 2017, placing itself among the top ten Italian departments that have benefited from the additional resources provided by the stability law to develop improvements in teaching and administrative organization, strengthening the already excellent results of research.

Breaking down the data for individual disciplinary areas (Constitutional, Private, Administrative Law, etc.), in all sectors, Law professors have far exceeded the national averages, thus surpassing departments of larger and more prestigious universities.

The Department of Information, Infrastructure and Sustainable Energy Engineering - DIIES of the Mediterranean University of Reggio Calabria obtained in 2022 the recognition of " Department of Excellence " by the Ministry of University and Research - National Agency for the Evaluation of the University and Research System ANVUR.

This important result is in continuity with the path that the University of Reggio Calabria has undertaken with a view to proposing itself, nationally and internationally, as a reference point for teaching and research in the Mediterranean scenario.

The DIIES is the only Engineering Department between Calabria and Sicily to obtain this prestigious result, which comes at the end of a selection process among 350 candidates presented on the basis of the latest results of the Research Quality Evaluation (VQR).
