Services
The following can access the library facilities of the University Library System and use the related services:
- the members of the university community, indicated in art. 11, paragraph 1, of the University Statute, called internal users;
- those who are not members of the university community, called external users, only for justified study or research needs, subject to authorization from the head of the library facility concerned, within the limits set by these regulations.
Article 11, paragraph 1, of the University Statute states: "The university community includes: teaching, research, management, technical-administrative, and library staff, students, and all those who temporarily participate in activities carried out within the University, such as subject matter experts, contract workers, research fellows, doctoral students and postdocs, scholarship holders, interns, and in general all those who, in various capacities, spend periods of research or technical collaboration, training, teaching, or study at the University."
The bibliographic materials placed on open shelves are freely available for consultation.
The bibliographic materials stored in the warehouse can be consulted, upon request, up to a maximum of 12 books and 8 issues of periodicals per day.
The consultation of: ancient, rare, and valuable books; maps; drawings; degree, master's, and doctoral theses may be subject to restrictions.
Internal users can borrow up to six books for a period of 30 days. Loans can be renewed upon request before the expiration date.
External users can borrow up to three books for a maximum of 15 days. Loans are non-renewable.
The following are not available for loan: codices; indexes; dictionaries; encyclopedias; ancient, rare, and valuable books; frequently consulted works; exhibition catalogs; maps; drawings; degree, master's, and doctoral theses; and multimedia materials.
The loan of textbooks for educational use is limited to 4 days and is not renewable.
The loan is personal. Borrowed books cannot be transferred to third parties.
Failure to return a book by the due date will result in exclusion from the loan service for 30 days from the date of return.
The loss or destruction of a volume will result in its replacement, at the user's expense, with another copy of the same edition or, if not commercially available, of the first subsequent edition available.
Internal users can request interlibrary loans of up to 3 books per month.
External users cannot use the interlibrary loan service.
The loan of books to libraries outside the University Library System is carried out on a free reciprocal basis.
Document delivery
The document delivery service allows you to obtain bibliographic material not available in the University Library System libraries by requesting it from other libraries. The document delivery service is provided to libraries outside the University Library System on a free reciprocal basis.
Who can use the service?
Internal users can use the document delivery service : professors, researchers, research fellows, doctoral students, and students enrolled in regular courses and postgraduate specialization courses at the University of Mediterranean Studies of Reggio Calabria, as well as international students on the Erasmus Plus program.
What kind of material can be requested?
Articles published in periodicals and essays/chapters of monographs that are not present in the libraries of the University Library System or in the electronic resources to which it is subscribed.
Before submitting your request, please check the availability of the material in the University OPAC and in the electronic resources to which the University has subscribed.
How many documents can be requested?
Up to 4 documents per week.
How much does the service cost?
The service is free.
What are the waiting times?
Waiting times vary depending on the library requesting the material and its processing and shipping methods. The average waiting time is 5 business days. Once the material is received, the University Library System will notify the requester by email.
How can I submit the request?
The request can be made in person or by completing the online form.
All users, both internal and external, can use the reference service (bibliographic research support). Requests can be made on-site or via email.
Internal users can access electronic resources on-site and, under the conditions and limits established by the relevant publishers, remotely.
External users can access electronic resources exclusively on-site.
Donations of bibliographic material worth less than €150.00 will be accepted by the recipient library manager, subject to a positive assessment of the material's relevance to the facility's scientific-disciplinary area and its state of preservation.
Proposals for donations of bibliographic materials valued at more than €150.00 are accepted by the Rector, upon recommendation by the University Library System Coordination Committee. Acceptance is subject to a positive assessment of the bibliographic material's scientific relevance, its state of preservation, and the availability of adequate space for its storage.
Proposals to purchase bibliographic materials may be submitted on-site or by completing the form available on the University website. The purchase of the proposed material is subject to its scientific relevance and the availability of sufficient funds.
The purchase proposal service allows you to propose the purchase of bibliographic material that is not available in the libraries of the University Library System.
The proposals received are evaluated by the relevant University bodies, taking into account available resources and the interest of University Library System users in the material submitted. The proposer is informed of the outcome of the proposal by email.
Purchase proposals can be made by completing the appropriate online form. Before completing the form, please check the availability of the bibliographic material you wish to purchase in the University Catalogue and in the electronic resources to which the University has subscribed.
The purchase proposal service is available to: professors, researchers, research fellows, doctoral students, and students enrolled in regular courses and postgraduate specialization courses at the Università degli Studi Mediterranea di Reggio Calabria, as well as international students on the Erasmus Plus program.
