Erasmus+ Blended Intensive Programmes

Erasmus+ BIP - Blended Intensive Programmes

The Università degli Studi Mediterranea di Reggio Calabria pursues the experimental and innovative objectives envisaged by the new Erasmus+ program, aiming to unite groups of students and host teachers from other partner universities to undertake an international exchange training program .

Erasmus Blended Intensive Programmes (BIPs) are a new type of short-term, intensive mobility program that allows for an internationalization experience combining a short-term physical mobility with a mandatory virtual component. This experience allows joint groups of students, teaching staff, and administrative staff from different countries to participate and collaborate on specific tasks collectively and simultaneously.

With objectives focused on fostering interinstitutional collaboration, innovating educational offerings, equipping students with future-oriented skills, promoting cultural and academic exchange, and ensuring academic recognition, the BIP offers a flexible and interdisciplinary curriculum. This initiative is designed to broaden participants' global perspectives, enhance employability, and uphold high standards of academic excellence.

Mixed intensive programmes must award at least 3 ECTS credits to students.

Eligible Participating Organizations: A Blended Intensive Program (BIP) must be designed and implemented by at least three ECHE-holding higher education institutions from at least three Programme Countries. Additionally, any other higher education institution or organization based in a Programme Country may participate. Higher education institutions implementing the BIP may sign a multilateral interinstitutional agreement.

Activity location: A blended intensive program is coordinated by a higher education institution with an ECHE, which usually also hosts the in-person activities; however, participating higher education institutions may choose a different location within the partnership.

Duration of the activity: Physical mobility lasts from 5 to 30 days. There is no minimum duration for the virtual component, however, combined physical and virtual mobility must award students a minimum of 3 ECTS credits.

Eligible participants: The minimum number of participants in a blended intensive program for in-person activities is 15 learners, i.e., students and staff involved in the BIP—excluding teachers and trainers—on Erasmus+ mobility. Additional participants are eligible if they come from higher education institutions in a Program Country. Students from higher education institutions in a Partner Country may also participate in the BIP, but they do not count towards the minimum number of 15 participants as they do not receive an Erasmus+ grant. There is no maximum number of participants; however, a balanced ratio between the number of learners and teachers/trainers is recommended for effective training.
